Satyaprakash Sahu: A Visionary for Change

Satyaprakash Sahu, an ambitious Class 8 student at Government High School Chintamaneshwar in Bhubaneswar, stands out among his peers with his extraordinary vision and determination. While most children his age are still discovering their passions, Satyaprakash has already set his sights on becoming an IAS officer—a goal he is pursuing with unmatched focus and fervour.

He recalls how the idea of becoming an IAS officer took root in his mind. Narrating the story, he says, “I stumbled upon a series of videos on YouTube about the UPSC exams. I was fascinated by the fact that how IAS officers work to develop districts and improve basic facilities. I want to become an IAS officer and ensure that every region in our country has proper schools, hospitals and infrastructure.” His dream goes beyond personal success; it is a vision to bring tangible change to the lives of people in underdeveloped areas.

Born into a modest family, Satyaprakash's life is an example of resilience and aspiration. Talking about his family, he says, “My father, Manoj Kumar, works as a daily wage labourer in a local ration market. My mother, Basanti, is a homemaker.” Despite the financial constraints, his parents have always encouraged him to aim high and chase his dreams. His parents believe in him and have taught him the value of hard work and the importance of giving back to society.

Satyaprakash's typical day is a blend of rigorous academics, physical activities and familial responsibilities. He says, “I wake up early and go to sleep early as well. In the morning, I take time to revise my lessons, especially mathematics. It is my favourite subject.” He enjoys maths for its logic and problem-solving aspects. During school hours, Satyaprakash actively participates in class discussions and engages with his teachers to deepen his understanding of various subjects. His enthusiasm for learning has earned him the admiration of his teachers, who describe him as a curious and driven student.

A significant part of Satyaprakash's school day revolves around sports. Being an avid athlete, he enjoys playing all kinds of sports. His love for sports is not just a hobby but a passion that teaches him discipline and teamwork, thereby keeping him physically and mentally fit. His sporting achievements, including winning first prize in a sprint race, are examples of his dedication and love for sports. Satyaprakash idolises Cristiano Ronaldo, drawing inspiration from the footballer’s hard work and relentless pursuit of greatness.

Satyaprakash's afternoons are brightened by the mid-day meal provided by Akshaya Patra. “The food is delicious,” he says with a smile. “My favourites are soybean ki sabzi and paneer ki sabzi.” Akshaya Patra’s school feeding programme is an effort to implement PM POSHAN Abhiyaan in government and government-aided schools. These meals have nourished 2.25 million children like Satyaprakash and instilled in them a deep appreciation for the programme’s impact. The importance of such initiatives in eradicating hunger and ensuring quality education, as per the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-2 and SDG-4), cannot be overstated.

Satyaprakash Sahu’s life is a powerful reminder that ambition, combined with hard work and the right opportunities, can overcome any obstacle. With the support of his family, teachers, and initiatives like Akshaya Patra, he is on a path to turn his vision for change into a reality. In a world where challenges often overshadow possibilities, his story shines brightly, inspiring others to dream big and work tirelessly towards a better future.
