Keerthana is a 6th grade student at GHPS Maidens Block, Mysuru, with dreams as vibrant as her personality. Her aspiration to become a paediatrician stems from her own childhood experiences. "When I was younger, I used to fall sick very often," Keerthana recalls. "My parents would take me to the doctor every other day. The way the doctor treated me, and other children left a lasting impact on me." This admiration planted the seed of a lifelong goal: to become a child specialist.

"When I told my parents about my dream, they were very happy," she says with a smile. “My father, Mahadev Naik, works as a mason. My mother, Rajeshwari, is a maid who helps with household chores in nearby homes. I have an elder brother, Nandish. He is studying in 9th grade in a different school. Sometimes, he helps me with my homework,” she adds. Despite their busy schedules, they ensure Keerthana and her elder brother, Nandhesh, receive the education and support they need.

Keerthana’s school life revolves around her studies and her ambition. She is particularly fond of science and biology. "Learning about how the human body works is interesting," she explains. Her teachers are aware of her goals and often guide her with extra attention to ensure she builds a strong foundation for the future.

Mornings are hectic for Keerthana’s family. With her parents leaving early for work, breakfast is sometimes skipped. But she doesn’t have to worry because she gets nutritious meals from Akshaya Patra at school. “My favourite dish is bisibelebath. It’s my absolute favourite! I always look forward to it," she says enthusiastically. Akshaya Patra’s school feeding programme is a lifeline for 2.25 million students like Keerthana. This programme is an effort to implement the PM POSHAN Abhiyaan in government schools across India. Akshaya Patra’s efforts align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-2: zero hunger and SDG-4: facilitating quality education).

Keerthana’s story is one of resilience, hope, and gratitude. She acknowledges the support of her family, school, and Akshaya Patra in shaping her journey. With her compassionate heart and unyielding determination, Keerthana is poised to make a significant impact on the world, one child at a time.
